The chairman of law-making body of Japan’s Nahdlatul Ulama Special Branch Board (PCI NU), Agus Zainal Arifin said here on Monday (15/1) that there were no such distinct differences between Japan and Indonesia’s educational system implemented especially in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren).

He gave an example that students were obliged to take off their shoes before entering classrooms. He also stressed that there was a good communication between students and teachers.

<>As reported by this news portal, Japan’s government had given opportunities for NU teachers by providing scholarships to participate in an educational program for teachers in the country.

The non-degree program running for 18 months is now designed by the Shinzo Abe’s administration for teachers to increase their quality in learning and teaching process in accordance with their own subject matters. The registration would be closed until 31 January 2007 ahead.

Agus who is now still taking doctorate program at University of Hirosima said though both countries’ educational system was the same but it could not give the same impact due to the lack of awareness of what so-called as discipline of our students.

The Surabaya’s Technological Institute lecturer said if the discipline and the healthy competition between students as seen in the Japan’s educational institution could be implemented in ours, this would of course be one of the world’s leading institutions. (rif)
