President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that people from other countries praised the beauty of Muslim fashion created by Indonesian designers, ANTARA news agency reported.

"Every time I travel around the world and meet many people, they always convey to me that Indonesian Muslim fashion design is very beautiful," he noted, while attending the Muslim Fashion Festival (Mufest) Indonesia 2018 at Jakarta Convention Center, on Thursday.

According to the president, several Indonesian Muslim fashion designs are the works of the MSME sectors.

Amidst global competition, Jokowi expressed hope that all stakeholders in the Muslim fashion industry could work together to turn Indonesian fashion into a distinctive characteristic of Indonesian tradition.

"It is just about how we develop the Indonesian Muslim fashion to be the center of the world`s Muslim fashion," he remarked.

In his speech, Jokowi also appreciated one of the start-up from Indonesia that promotes Muslim fashion using digital technology in the website hijup.com.

The head of state praised the product, page design, and services of hijup using digital technology innovations.

He further stated that the Muslim fashion industry needs to collaborate with other sectors, such as sports.

Fashion industry needs to add Islamic values to the innovation and needs of athletes in sports.

"This is an example of a very good approach and a progressive fashion innovation by utilizing e-commerce," he remarked.

During the event, Jokowi reminded Muslim fashion designers to promote Indonesian traditional styles in their designs. (Masdar)
