NU: SBY must build a strong foundation

The Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) has expected a new government under the SBY-Boediono leadership to be capable of building a strong foundation.

Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Masdar F. Mas'udi said here Tuesday that the strong foundation was the establishment of the republic greatly appreciating any diversity in addition to creating a more developed, just, and democratic country.<>

"We expect (SBY) to be able to build a strong foundation for the establishment of Indonesia as the biggest Muslim country in the world," Masdar said, adding that Indonesia could be a more democratic and just country.

According to Masdar the majority of Nahdliyin (NU followers) warmly welcomed the new government under the leadership of SBY and Boediono, saying that the Nahdliyin congratulated SBY as president for his second period.

"Hopefully, God bless him. We believe that with the role of all social elements especially in the grassroot, SBY will be capable of living up to his promises during his campaign to make people prosperous and further progress for his nation," Masdar said.

As reported, some 17,000 police and military personnel secured the inauguration of second-term elected President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Boediono here on Tuesday at the House of Representatives (DPR)/People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) building in South Jakarta.

The international standard security has also put in the first ring; a team of snipers, a bomb squad, 300 Presidential Security Service and 500 personnel from Indonesian Military. (min)
