Al Manar TV station is determined to promote moderate Islamic views as developed by the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) overseas. The Hezbollah-linked station has also expected to develop the concept of Islam as blessing for the universe (Islam rahmatan lil Alamin) throughout the world. Al Manar's representative in Indonesia, Ali Assegaf, made the remarks in his residency in Jakarta on Sunday (7/9).

According to Assegaf, the Nahdliyin-based organization had great concerns over the Islamic issues in the world. Its recent world forum called as the International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) was a proof.<>

"The ICIS can be an effective communication bridge between NU and Islamic world. Al Manar is ready to promote the NU's global views and insights for the triumph of Islam and the benefit of the people," Assegaf told NU Online.

Assegaf said Al Manar was also ready to help facilitate the willingness of Nahdliyin (NU followers) to have TV station in developing and seeding the teaching of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah.

"Al Manar is ready to deepen partnership with local televisions belong to Nahdliyin," Assegaf said, adding that the partnership could especially deal with their content "for it is the key of media."

The alumnus of the Technological Institute of Bandung (ITB) said in strengthening programs broadcast by Al Manar, he would focus more on local wisdom-based developments. In this regard, he would involve the organization.

"We do not come to Indonesia to change Indonesian Muslim people be Arab. I want Indonesia to be Indonesia being able to develop with its cultural differences as represented by NU," Assegaf said. (hir/rif)
