Egyptian intellectual Dr. Hassan Hanafi greatly appreciated the books written by NU young cadres.
The books written in Indonesian language were entitled "Rekonstruksi Disiplin Keilmuan Islam (The Reconstruction of Islamic Scientific Discipline)" and "Liberasi Abad Kegelapan: Potret Ulama Raksasa Era Skolastik yang Terlupakan (The Dark Age Liberation: The Portrait of Neglected Great Ulema of the Scholastic Era)".<>
The intellectual said said the scholarly works should be appreciated for elaborating such great and purposeful ideas and notions.
"It's very possible in their hands the problem of imperialism and the backwardness of Islam can be dealt with and in the arm of the young generation the rennaisance of Islamic world would rely on," Hassan Hanafi said.
The first book entitled "Rekonstruksi Disiplin Keilmuan Islam" focuses more on the history of religious reform and tracing possible "second" renaissance. This book was written by an Egyptian NU young cadre for fulfilling bachelor degree requirements at Al Azhar University.
Chairman of the Egyptian Nahdlatul Ulama Institute for Human Resource Study and Development (Lakpesdam NU) Irwan Maduki said those writing the books were still young enough and would be such "successors" of Muslim intellectuals like Hassan Hanafi, Abid Al Jabiri, Muhammad Arkoun, Thayyib Tizini, Shadiq Jalal al Adhim and many other outstanding ones.
"This book is portraying an appreciation to fresh Indonesian thinkers upon their efforts as well as ideas on the contemporary Arab renewal project. In addition this book also reflects such noble intention to reinvigorate religious reform movement and the renaissance of Islamic world," Irwan told NU Online in Cairo Wednesday.
While the second book, "Liberasi Abad Kegelapan: Potret Ulama Raksasa Era Skolastik yang Terlupakan" published by the Egyptian NU Special Branch Board (PCINU) would try to demolish orientalists' arguments by offering progressive and inclusive thoughts of the dark age ulema. (nam)
