General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi has now had a new business at one of Indonesia's outstanding universities. Hasyim has just been appointed to be a lecturer at the Indonesian University due to his important roles in helping create world peace through the concept of Islam rahmatan lil alamin (blessing for the universe).
The involvement of the leader of Malang's Al Hikam Islamic boarding school (pesantren) was marked with his preliminary speech delivered at the university located on Jalan Salemba, Jakarta on Monday (1/9) evening. He will teach World View about Islam at the postgraduate prog<>ram.
"Yes, I will teach at the postgraduate program of Indonesian University," he told Duta Masyarakat here on Monday.
The ex-chairman of East Java's NU Regional Board said he had so far studied more about Islam and issues on world developments by going overseas rather than studying from books.
"Perhaps because of my frequently visit to various countries especially those hit by conflicts," Hasyim who earned his DHC degree from the Surabaya's High Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) said.
While the PBNU has three times held its world forum called as the International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS). Hasyim has also played important roles in dealing with the conflicts in southern Thailand and Middle East countries. He is now the president of the World Conference of Religions for Peace located at New York. (nam)
