The House of Representatives (DPR) leadership has urged the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) to adopt a stand and take a firm decision on the regular airing of a program titled "Smack Down" by a private TV station because actions in the show were being emulated by children with some of them already suffering harmful consequences.
As reported by the national news agency Antara, the House leadership comprising House Speaker Agung Laksono and Vice Speaker Zainal Maarif addressed the request to the KPI on Tueday (28/11) without elaborating on the victims’ fate.
<>Agung said it was better to ban the TV station from brodacasting the Smack Down program and the KPI should have the courage to take immediate stern action to prevent more children from getting hurt. "The TV station concerned should also consider the impact of the program," he added.Zainal said the mission of TV stations was not only to provide entertainment but also to educate the public. "Therefore, in providing entertainment TV stations should also pay attention to the educational aspects of their programs," he said. (dar)
