Hundreds of foreign non-governmental organizations from 37 countries would reportedly conduct an anti-IMF seminar in the Indonesia industrial island of Batam on September 15-17 ahead following the annual meeting of International Monetary Fund (IMF) on September 19-20 in Singapore. The equal forum is aimed at criticizing the policies campaigned by the IMF.

According to Deputy Director of the International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID), Dian Kartika Sari, one of the important agendas of the forum is to protest the location of where the IMF annual meeting held in.

<>"The IMF forum should be held in a democratic country that gives more opportunities for public to channel their aspirations. Singapore is a close country," Dian told Detik on Monday (11/9).

She said that the organizing committe had previously sent a letter to the World Bank containing such critics over the location of the IMF meeting.

The Batam's forum would repotedly focus on matters related to deviant policies of the IMF through indoor-workshops. "There is no demonstration agenda. We'll take up more about the materials," Dian said. (nam)
