Iran will invite NU chairman at international conference in Tehran

The roles of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in international world tend to be in great interest. Islamic Republic of Iran would specially invite the general chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi at an international conference in Tehran, Iran on coming 4-6 March.
 
The participation of the top figure of the Nahdliyin-based organization at the conference taking up "Islamic Unity" was expressed by the vice secretary general of PBNU H Iqbal Sullam at the PBNU headquarters, Jalan Kramat raya 164, Jakarta on Monday (14/1).<>

He said the Indonesia's Iranian ambassador Behrooz Kamalvandi met and invited Hasyim at his residency, Al Hikam Islamic boarding school (Pesantren), Depok, West Java on Wednesday (9/1).

"Pak Hasyim has expressed his preparedness to attend (the conference). He would even be the only one of Indonesian Muslim figure invited to the conference," Iqbal said.

The conference initiated by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought is the forum for ulema and Muslim scholars around the world.

"At the conference, efforts of dealing with Islamic unity would be discussed in terms of the Islamic world's challenges in recent globalization era," Iqbal added.

The mediating roles played by the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization could be seen following its two International Conference of Islamic Scholars/ICIS) in Jakarta in February 2004 and Jun 2006.

Besides its effort to deal with any religious conflicts in some countries, NU also facilitate intersectarian conflicts in Iraq through a meeting so-called as Conference of Shi'ite-Sunni Reconciliation  in Bogor, West Java on April 2007. (rif)
