As part of developing human resources, the Institute for Human Resource Study and Development of Nahdlatul Ulama (Lakpesdam NU) recently held a voter education program and socialization of the 2009 election.
Chairman of Lakpesdam NU Nasihin Hasan made the remarks as opening a national training of trainers of the voter education program and socialization of the 2009 election in Jakarta Wednesday (11/3).<>
Nasihin said, formerly there had been many programs carried out by Lakpesdam NU like cow cultivation, shrimp cultivation and so on. All this was part of the organization in addressing the need of Nahdliyin (NU followers) and networks as a means of developing human resources within NU milieu.
Ahead of the 2009 election that will be held on 9 April, Lakpesdam NU held voter education programs and socialization of the 2009 election in some 360 villages, 90 districts and 18 regencies in 9 provinces.
According to Nasihin, as a key element of democracy many have been much concerned about elections. He said at least there were three domains in regard with the implementation of the election, namely people, political parties and general elections commission (KPU) / general elections supervisory board (Bawaslu).
Meanwhile, the member of KPU Abdul Aziz was of view any matter related to the implementation of election could not fully be handed over to KPU. As for him, the Department of Home Affairs providing demographic data and the House producing legislation should also be responsible for this matter.
"Unfortunately, such legislations related to the election have not yet fully been examined and studied whereas there have been many contradicting," chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) said. (mkf)
