He said as an Islamic organization seeding moderate attitudes, NU had big challenges in defending the unitary state of republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

He said there were four things mandated by the government to Nahdliyin. "We appeal to all Nahdliyin to stay committed to building the nation."

According to Said Aqil to build the nation the Nahliyin should at least stem any radicalization in the name of religion, initiate dialogues of civilizations and strengthen civil society.

In addition, he said, the NU individuals should also stay consistent in defending the NKRI, Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution and the Unity in Diversity (Bhinneka Tunggal Ika). (ms)
