NU: Aswaja would disappear if it is not well organized

General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi said that the teachings of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah (Aswaja) would disappear following the existence new Islamic sects.

"The teaching of Aswaja is good and appropriate with our nation's culture. If it is not well organized, it would increasingly weak and disappear," Hasyim made the statement before tens of NU followers (Nahdliyin) in Bogor on Wednesday (7/5).<>

Hasyim called on board members of NU Regional Branch Board of Bogor to pay more attention to the importance of organizational concolidation aimed at preaching the teachings of Aswaja.

He also expected all board members to all out do for the sake of NU and called for the importance of forming NU cadres.

In the meantime, Hasyim also called on all pesantren circles especially santris to continue the struggle of ulema in teaching traditional books as taught in Islamic boarding schools.

"All of us should think about this (forming of cadres)," Hasyim said, adding that on coming ten years NU would vanish if NU as religious social organization focuses more on old NU circles.

Present also at the occasion were Chairman of West Java's PWNU KH Wahidi, Rais Syuriyah of PCNU Kabupaten Bogor KH R. Muhtar Royani, Chairman of Regional House of Representatives of Bogor H Rachmat Yasin, Regional Secretary of Bogor Ahmad Sundawa, and many other officials. (hir)
