Chairman of the Maluku's Regional Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Rahman Holle called on Muslims in the province to help maintain security and harmony with their Christian brothers and sisters on Christmas and New Year.
"Muslims should ensure security on Christmas and New Year to secure a peaceful situation after the three-year social conflict since 1999," Holle said here on Friday (22/12).
<>Holle, who is also a member of the Provincial Legislative Assembly (DPRD), noted that his call on Muslims to maintain a peaceful situation in the eastern Indonesian town of Ambon during Christmas and New Year, was to return the contribution of their Christian brothers and sisters to maintain law and order during the Islamic fasting month of Ramadhan and Idul Fitri."We have to be united in making the future of the province brighter and more attractive to foreign tourists and foreign investors," Holle said as reported by Antara news agency.
He believed that security in Maluku would be more conducive to improvement of the local people’s welfare after the protracted conflict in the province.
"Imagine that the conflict caused 56 percent of the population in the province to become poor. Therefore, all members of the society should join hands in maintaining law and order," Holle noted. (mad)
