Jakarta, NU Online
As a community-based news portal, NU Online must stay committed to spread and disseminate the teachings of NU ulema (Islamic scholars).

H. Hasyim Wahid (Gus Im) made the remarks at a meeting taking up issues on information technology and communications (ITC) ahead of the NU Online's five-year anniversary recently.<>

Gus Im said that the official site of the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization could also be such an alternative of medernization.

"If in the modernization people can be trapped into disintegration and individualization, NU Online can make the people modern and integrated because all NU followers (Nahdliyin) all over the world can be integrated as well as organized by NU Online," Gus Im said.

He was of view by visiting NU Online every day, NU followers in America, U.K., Japan and many other countries including those living in Pacitan, Tangerang and other regions across the country would feel close to NU ulema.

"In this regard, NU Online must represent NU orthodoxy. Through this media, the Nahdliyin can see the true NU in nature. NU Online should be able to be accessed by modern people for their difficulties in searching for reference" Gus Im said, adding that the strategy of googleization should importantly be taken by NU Online so that those wishing to convert to Islam were the same as those wishing to follow NU.

In the meantime, the younger brother of Indonesian former president KH Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) expected NU Online to be capable of playing its important role as such public reference/source. (dar)
