More than 350,000 junior high-school students who failed the national exam will take a resit later this month that would allow them to graduate and continue their studies at higher institutions.
Junior high-schools students tool the national exam between March 29 and April 8. The remedial tests will be held from May 17 to May 20.<<>;br />
“Last year’s pass rate was 95.09 percent, and this year it was 90.27 percent,” Education Minister Muhammad Nuh said in Jakarta on Thursday.
He said said the decrease was to be expected. “Fluctuation is normal,” he said.
This year, 3,605,163 students took national exams.
Mansyur Ramli, the ministry’s head of research and development, said the average mark for the tests was 7.21.
“The national target, according to the strategic plan, is 7.0,” he said. (jp)
