Mambaul Ma'arif Islamic boarding school, well-known as Pesantren Denanyar, has taken a new breakthrough during the holy month of Ramdhan. The pesantren located in Denanyar, Jombang, East Java, has held such religious gatherings to take up various issues.

The purposeful gatherings have not only focused on Islamic thoughts like Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah (Aswaja), Shi'ite, Wahabism, Neo-Mu'tazilism, and Salafism but also focused on topics about Atheism, Liberalism, Secularism, Socialism, Capitalism, Structural and Cult<>ural Islam and so on.

The gatherings called as "Nadwah Ilmiyah" have been participated by upper level students of Senior High School.

The leader of Pesantren Denanyar KH Wazir Aly said, the Nadwah Ilmiyah was aimed at giving more comprehensive understanding to students (santri) dealing with any developing thoughts from within and outside Islam. "In addition to being fortress or filter for santri from such thoughts capable of undermining Islam as atheism, liberalism, secularism and so forth," KH Wazir said here on Thursday (4/9). NU Online's Yusuf Suharto reported.

KH Wazir who is also secretary of the Advisory Council of Jombang's NU Branch Board said Pesantren Denanyar had also held similar gatherings to study religious text-books (traditionally and locally called as kitab kuning) such as Nasha'ihul Ibad and at Tibyan participated by all students.

While other figure of the pesantren, KH Abdus Salam Shohib said that the gatherings with more dialogical methods were aimed at strengthening communication ties in addition to deepening Islamic thoughts. (rif)
