The last 27 May’s 5.9 Richter Scale earthquake striking Indonesia’s regions of Yogyakarta and Central Java has left such a traumatic and painful event especially for child victims.
There has been now 10 santris (those who studying in Islamic Boarding ”pesantren” School) living in the pesantren Mlangi, a religious institution supervised by KH RM Rifqi Aziz Maksum. All of the 10-year-old children have been enjoying studying in the pesantren and Ma’arif Junior High School, located in Nogotirto, Gamping, Sleman.
<>“Many child victims could no longer continue to study due to the limited finance. We want to lighten their burden. Here, they have not only studied in the pesantren, but they have also continued their study in Junior High,” said Kyai Rifqi to NU Online, Thursday (3/8).
The children have also studied both languages English and Arabic as additional subject matters and as part of efforts to be able to study other subjects as taught at schools in general. They have freely studied without paying any tuition, daily living cost, uniform and even their needs for three years of study.
Kyai Rifqi added that all matters related to the educational cost have been sponsored by alumni of the pesantren Falakiyah and local donors. (ron)
