President, VP, gather masses in Idul Adha prayer

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Jusuf Kalla joined thosands of Muslim on Monday morning to pray and celebrate Islamic Day of Sacrifice or Idul Adha in Istiqlal Mosque of Central Jakarta.

Minister of Information and Communication Muhammad Nuh gave a religious speech after the prayer, tempointeraktif.com reported Monday.

Following the speech, the mosque is scheduled to slaughter dozens of cows and goats, and hand the meats for the unfortunate ones on Tuesday. It will deploy hundreds of security guards to anticipate any possible violence during the meat distribution to the people.

Meanwhile, the city administration has recorded that the capital will slaughter a total of 1,508 animals for this year's festivity. The city's head of Idul Adha executives Tajuddin said
that the officers would slaughter all animals between today and Wednesday. (jp/dar)
