The 70-ton aid, including medicines, tents, food and blankets was transported to the North Sumatra provincial capital of Medan using a cargo plane owned by the Saudi government.

The second phase of relief aid is expected to arrive on Jan 17. The aid was a manifestation of the Saudi government’s and people’s sympathy towards victims of natural disasters that hit several parts of Indonesia, Abdullah Aziz said.

Saragih, who represented North Sumatra Governor Rudolf M Pardede, meanwhile underscored the importance of the aid for the flood and landslide victims, saying it reflected close relations between the two countries and peoples. 9ant/mad)
