NU political attitudes are not based on the will of power (power ambitions), but rather an integral part of its social responsibilities. The principle of tashorruful imam ala ra'iyah manuthun bil maslahah. On the other side we often see that many good policies formulated by parliament and implemented by the government are very far from people and the national interests. On the contrary, all of the policies are for the interest of both ruling elites themselves and businessmen.
As part of its social responsibility to address the welfare of the whole people NU has immediately taken measures to focus more on a social order and the national integrity instead of endorsing liberal political and administrative systems. Without decreasing the quality of democracy, NU has repeatedly proposed the abolishment of direct regional head elections for spending a lot of money in addition to triggering a possible social disintegration. More importantly, the direct regional head elections clearly violate the basic principles as contained within the Pancasila.
t; Pancasila in Article three states that our democratic system is not direct democracy but a representative democracy, as stated, "Democracy guided by the inner wisdom in the unanimity arising out deliberations amongst representatives". In the Pancasila democracy executive chiefs ranging from presidents to regents are elected by the people's representatives who have democratically been elected by the people.
In the politics of nationality and statehood, NU will always be involved itself, because this is not about seizing power, but to save the nation and state, this is what called as the politics of nationality. Moreover, the existing political political parties have so far tended to focus more on how to pursue power, without addressing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the nation, including matters related to the dignity and the greatness of the nation. At this stand, NU will certainly take this political attitude.
It is impossible to create a social welfare in the midst of a capitalistic political system, because the system is liberal and focuses more on competition rather than cooperation. Sense of brotherhood and kinship will always be put aside by the system, while such systems as brotherhood and kinship will bring a social welfare equally. Therefore the constitutional system which has already violated the nation's ideology must be returned to its genuine principles, namely Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution, because the two are pillars being able to create social order and maintain the nation's integrity.
It's again impossible to create a social welfare if there are still many violations against the nation's ideology instead of creating a secure and developed nation. We can see historical facts when the 1945 Constitution was changed mysteriously by implementing liberal democracy following the issuance of the Maklumat X. The nation has already been tranpped into such conflicts as sectarian, ethnic and ideological. There had formerly been efforts to reinstate the 1945 Constitution but now such efforts have been taken again to return to liberal system as that implemented in 1950s. All this has caused more ongoing crises without any solution, including sectarian conflicts and exacerbated by unstoppable corruption. Even the issue of corruption is considered as an effective way to eliminate oppositions. At the same time, the corruption practices are continuously committed to run the government.
The big task of citizens is to protect the nation from any dispute, save the country from disintegration and keep the state assets not to continually be corrupted by its officials. At this point, NU wants a big change in the existing constitutional and political system. The
political system must be returned to such principles as Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. Thus, all regulations and rules opposing to the two principles should be changed in order to maintain the security and the dignity of the nation. For the social and national reason, NU has taken a firm political stance which is impossible to be taken by other political parties or organizations.
