Cadres born from revolution era

NU Online  ·  Jumat, 16 Juli 2010 | 01:34 WIB

The development of an organization, even a nation is really determined by the availability of cadres being capable of continuing the leadership of the organization, including social and other organizations, especially large organization so-called as a state. Every era could produce its own cadres with its own character.

At the era of revolution, though educational institutions were chaotic, it could forge people in dealing with various difficulties and pressures, which could be considered as the process of building one's mental strength. Therefore we could see prominent cadres of the era. Despite a limited education, the cadres could think, take actions and implement various policies maturely, so we have still enjoyed the results up to now.
t;
KH Idham Chalid who died recently, was a general chairman of NU, the son of a village cleric in a hinterland of Kalimantan who was capable of getting achievements like being deputy prime minister, chairman of the MPR (People`s Consultative Assembly)/DPR (House of Representatives), and Supreme Advisory Council (DPA) and serving in various ministries. At the same time, in NU there were also leaders whose the same quality and capacity, such as Ahmad Syaichu, Djamaludin Malik, Nuddin Lubis, Saifuddin Zuhri, K Masykur, and Subchan ZE. The greatness of KH  Wahab Chasbullah and KhH Idham Chalid could not cover the greatness of other cadres, they went hand in hand, so that NU could be a large and respected organization.

The leaders who appeared at that time were truly primus inter pares (the most prominent among those whose average capability). This was not but to show the distribution of the same role to all cadres so that they could move forward together. The extent spectrum of NU activities, especially when it became a political party, did not allow any possible way of monopolizing both access and role because all lines must be maintained. For maintaining the mandate, they had such opportunity to improve their individual quality and capacity.

The scene is not the same as the next generation of NU, the capacity and the quality is uneven, either in the advisory and or in the executive board. All this is due to lack of a balanced system of regeneration, in the sense of giving authority and equitable roles, so that there are individuals really prominent or less prominent, even poor.

Therefore, it's time for us to pay more attention to the cadres placement system. Giving a proportionate and equitable authority is an important step. Thus, with an uneven experience, there will expectedly be cadres who have capacity. So that, it will be easy for NU to find future outstanding and superior cadres.

However NU is a large organization that can not only be organized by a few people with questionable quality and capacity. Qualified cadres are needed to take part in the organization. The role of the organization is highly expected by large NU individuals (Nahdliyin), even by this nation as a creator of the national life balance.

This in turn requires NU to recruit cadres being able to be placed in all sectors of life, because it is again in need of many qualified cadres to carry out social and the national tasks.

The age of revolution had gone, any forging and coercion of the age did not happen again, but regeneration should be done in more systematic and programmatic ways. The spaciousness of mind among the leaders is expected to provide the same roles and opportunities, so in the future we will no longer experience a crisis of cadres. If not, we will meet difficulties in finding leaders who are eligible and appropriate to lead this big organization.

From such former leaders as KH Hasyim as Ash'ari, KH Wahab Chasbullah, we could see that the two figures could share their own roles so that NU has till now become a large and respected organization. In addition, we could also see how KH Idham Chalid played and shared his role with other NU figures like Ahmad Sjaichu, Syaifudin Zuhri, Zainul Arifin, and so forth, so NU could give a big influence to this great nation.
