Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) H Ahmad Bagdja expressed his readiness to lead the religious social organization.

Ahead of its 32nd congress that will be held in Makassar next month in which the congress participants will give their vote for individuals being considered capable of leading the organization, Bagdja said that his 25-year service for the Nahdliyin-based organization could at least be such answer that he could be the 'best man' in the organization.<>

He added that his long experience in giving his best to the country's largest Muslim organization enabled him to expectedly address any emerging challenge and obstacle facing the organization.

"I have been 25 years in NU, 15 years during the Gus Dur's administration and served as secretary-general accompanying Gus Dur in the last period. While during the Pak Hasyim's chairmanship, I have for 10 years served as chairman. So if there have been many clerics (kiai) asking for me to be (general) chairman of NU, of course I must be ready," Bagdja said on the sidelines of a festival prior to the NU 32nd congress at the Tarbiyatut Tholabah Islamic boarding school (pesantren) in Lamongan on Saturday.

According Bagdja, at present NU is in need of a comprehensive management because there have been many heavy challenges facing NU either national or international ones.

"That's why it is in need of a clear duty sharing between advisory board (syuriyah) and the executive one. the former should be strengthened and the latter is executor," he said.

In addition, Bagdja said, all NU elements should importantly be maximized, ranging from institutions to such autonomous bodies as Muslimat NU, Ansor, Fatayat, NU students Association (IPNU) and NU Female Students Association (IPPNU).

"All this should properly be functioned. They emerge for being set up by NU as tools of organization,"Bgdja said.

He further explained that NU should pay more attention to the ummah (people) in such fields as preaching, education, economy and social, saying that there should be clear management between the central and the lower levels because there have so far been no many policies reaching the grassroot level.
