Cak Nun: Do not scold President Yudhoyono

The Indonesia's culturalist Emha Ainum Nadjib, popularly known as Cak Nun, has called on all parties to refrain from scolding the government, especially President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, for constantly disasters in the country.

"Please don’t scold the president for the seemingly endless disasters in the country, but let us unite every element to shun disintegration," Cak Nun said in a ritual gathering at Taman Ismail Marzuki arts center here early Saturday morning as quoted by Antara.<>

Present at the gathering a number of public figures such as Muhammad Sobary, Mbah Surip, Father Benny, and hundreds of other people whose houses inundated by last week’s floods sweeping through Jakarta and its surroundings.

On the occasion Cak Nun said it was time for all Indonesian people to wake up and reach the desired goals instead of making the government a scapegoat for various disasters that hit the country.

The noted Indonesian cultural observer also called on all parties to remain at their own position and learn from all things that have happened, inclunding the flood.

"Le us study together the relations of matters pertaining to the form of government, democracy and public services to know whether the government officials are right or wrong in making a decision," Cak Nun noted.

He said the way to overcome the problems in Indonesia at present was to sit down together to find out the best possibble solutions for this country.

Cak Nun also called on all Jakartans to be friendly with the environment and not to destroy it.

"Our people are in fact unfriendly to the environment. The forest areas which have to be preserved are even destroyed and turned into housing complexes," he said.

He further pointed out that a natural disaster could happen due to the three reasons namely the will of God, nature condition, and human error. (dar)
