Khofifah to make devotional visit to the grave of KH Hasyim Asy'ari and Soekarno

The candidate of East Java's governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa made Friday (18/4) a devotional visit to the grave of the founder the Indonesian biggest Muslim organization  Nahdlatul Ulama, KH Hasyim Asy'ari, located in Islamic boarding school (Pesantren) of Tebuireng, Jombang, East Java. Khofifah was accompanied by the caretaker of the pesantren KH Sholahuddin "Gus Sholah" Wahid.

After making a devotional visit to the former great chairman (Rais Akbar) of the Nahdliyin-based organization, Khofifah who is also chairwoman of Muslimat NU made also a devotional visit to the grave of former Indonesian first president Soekarno, located in Bendogerit village, Blitar, East Java. In this place she along with the members of Blitar's Muslimat NU recited repeatedly what called as tahlil (the confession of faith: there is no god but Allah)<>.

"We come here as a (symbolic) form of expression to have such approval to the nation's founding fathers like Bung Karno. Besides we made also a devotional visit to the grave of the NU's founding father," said Khofifah who was accompanied by her running mate Mudjiono.

She said the form of the national communication must constantly be maintained in nation and state's life for considering that the devotional visit was a form of constantly maintaining the national ethics.

Blitar, Khofifah said, was one of regions having potentials to develop as such a fruit industry center for instance.

Besides Khofifah-Mudjiono, the former chairman of the East Java's Nadhlatul Ulama (NU), Ali Maschan Moesa, as running mate of incumbent vice governor Soenaryo, Syaifullah Yusuf (Ansor Youth Movement) as running mate of the secretary of the provincial government, Soekarwo, and the influential PDI-P figure Sutjipto, with Ridwan Hisyam, a local Golkar figure, as his running mate would take part in the fierce competition. While Achmady moninated by the People Awakening Party (PKB) has so far yet to decide his running mate. (dtm/rif/sbh)
