Maftuh Basyuni expects Muslim unity through ICIS II

Indonesia's Religious Affairs Minister Maftuh Basyuni expected the second International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS II), held by the country's largest Muslim organization (NU) at Jakarta's Borobudur Hotel, Tuesday (20/6), as a means to unite Muslims and all nation's elements.

The statement above delivered by Maftuh before the national and international dignitaries in the three-day conference. "We know that with the unity we will be respected by others," Maftuh told reporters.

"According to Maftuh, the conflict among Muslims, that become front page news of the world, has damaged the prestige of Muslims themselves. "Because of the conflict, we have been a "game" for others," Maftuh said.

He also suggested the everything set up in the worldly NU international conference, might purposefully be implemented in accordance with the latest Muslims needs.

"Never make the decisions as ideas only. The proposed concepts as a result of the conference should be relevant to public necessity," he added.
 
The international conference will talk more about latest issues dealing with the Islamic development through commission meeting. (rif)
