In commemorating a momentous event, the NU 84th anniversary, such moderate Islamic organizations as Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah will constantly take part in fighting against any threat posed by transnational Islamic groups in the country.
Chairman of the NU Preaching Institution (LDNU) KH Nuril Huda told NU Online here on Tuesday.<>
"If we have a dispute, we will possibly forget purposeful programs of importantly empowering the ummah (people) so that they (transnational groups) will easily attract the ummah," he said.
At this point, Kiai Nuril called for the importance of maintaining the unity of followers of the two Indonesia's largest Muslim organizations.
He expressed his appreciation to the emerging sense of togetherness of the organizations' followers in big cities like Jakarta and considered it was such an instrument in facing any possible threat.
He said there were principle matters in terms of aqidah (creeds) that should be taken into account by the organizations' followers.
But respecting social relationships (muamalah), "we can cooperate," he said.
Kiai Nuril said that he had most of the time called on people in general and Muslims in particular regardless of their religious organizations to maintain their unity.
He also delivered the message as addressing a religious gathering in commemorating the NU 84th anniversary in Sibolga regency, North Sumatra which was participated by some 5000 Nahdliyin (NU followers) over the weekend. (mkf)
