Those who memorize the Quran (huffadz) have strategic roles in society. Chairman of Association of Quran Readers and Reciters (IPQAH), Said Agiel Hussein al-Munawwar said they could become influential religious leaders that are capable of contributing to their community.<>
In Indonesia, Muslims usually consult and solve their problems to someone who understands the Quran.
"It has happened since long time ago," Kiai Agiel said in an international seminar on the Quran at the Jakarta's Istiqlal Mosque recently.
The Quran memorizers, he added, could help build the young generation with their love to the Quran and implement its values into daily life.
Based on data of IPQAH, currently there have been some 48 thousand Quran memorizers spread throughout Indonesia. They graduated from local universites and even universities in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and various countries in the Middle East.
