The Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU) has decided to hold the National Conference of Alim Ulama (Munas) and the NU Grand Conference (Konbes) on 25-26 September 2021. The decision was made by the PBNU in a daily board meeting of syuriyah and tanfidziyah in Prigen, Pasuruan, East Java, Tuesday (7/9/2021).

Secretary General of PBNU H Ahmad Helmy Faishal Zaini said that the Munas and Konbes would discuss various strategic issues related to nationality and organization. Both will be held with an effective mechanism by taking into account very strict health protocols.

"One of the important agendas that will be discussed at the upcoming 2021 NU Munas and Konbes is the decision to organize the 34th NU Congress. At that forum, it is hoped that the definitive date for the congress could be decided and agreed upon," Helmy told NU Online here on Wednesday (8/9/2021).

Difference Between National Conference and Konbes

For information, the National Conference of Alim Ulama and the NU Grand Conference are two different forums. Both are the second deliberation forum after the congress, which is often held at the same time.

In previous years, the National Conference of Alim Ulama and the NU Grand Conference were designed as forums producing various strategic and fundamental decisions for the benefit of the people and the integrity of the nation and state.

The difference is, the Munas forum discusses religious issues concerning the lives of the people and the nation. It is a so-called bahtsul masail akbar forum. The Munas divides the discussion of religious issues into three categories.

First, Bahtsul Masail ad-Diniyyah al-Waqi'iyyah (actual religious issues). Second, Bahtsul Masail ad-Diniyyah al-Maudlu'iyyah (thematic religious issues). Third, Bahtsul Masail ad-Diniyyah al-Qonuniyyah (religious issues related to legislation).

While the NU Grand Conference is certainly very different. In this forum, the discussion in it is more about implementing various decisions of the congress, reviewing program developments, deciding on Organizational Regulations (PO), and issuing recommendations. In the NU Grand Conference the deliberative forum is narrowed down into three discussion commissions, namely the Program Commission, Organizational Commission, and Recommendation Commission.

Another difference is a matter of participation. The National Conference of Alim Ulama openly invites and involves Muslim scholars, leaders of Islamic boarding schools, and experts. Meanwhile, the NU Grand Conference's participants are more closed in nature. The participants only consist of plenary members of the central and regional board members.
