President: Indonesia ready to hold international ulema meeting

Indonesia has expressed readiness to host a meeting of international clerics to help build peace especially in Afghanistan. Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) conveyed the statement at a meeting with the chairman of Afghanistan's Peace Council Karim Khalili at Haram Sarai state palace on Monday.

"Indonesia is ready to be the host (of the meeting), which, I recommend, should be inclusive," Jokowi remarked.

He said the idea would be followed up in Jakarta. The idea is part of Indonesia's efforts to build peace in Afghanistan.

Jokowi has expressed deep condolences over the tragedy that happened in Afghanistan recently that has claimed dozens of lives. "I pray for their families and friends so they will be given strength. The cruelty will not weaken our spirit. It will even strengthen us in our efforts to create peace," he said according to a press release from the protocol, press and media deputy of the presidential secretariat, Bey Machmudin, received here.

Jokowi also thanked the vist of the chief of the Peace Council and delegation to Indonesia some time ago. With his return visit Jokowi wished to show Indonesia's commitment to help in the effort to create peace in Afghanistan. "I will use my visit to Kabul to underline Indonesia's commitment help peace building in Afghanistan as the president of Afghanistan has asked," he said.

Jokowi said Indonesia will build a health clinic at Indonesia Islamic Center in Kabul to complete the As-Salam mosque that has already been used. (Antara/Masdar)
