A challenge for NU

Indonesia has been now a comfortable country for the mushrooming of the world free market windows and an expected place of a freely fair deal of the world ideologies. Many lines of thought and Islamic hardliners have now become such phenomena.

The issue above was talked at a roundtable discussion held by Nahdlatul Ulama Institute for Human Resource Study and Development (Lakpesdam NU), Jalan KH Ramli, South Jakarta, Monday (20/11). The forum focused on the country’s largest Muslim organization and its fierce battle dealt with Islamic ideologies.

<>It was said the free market ideology has absolutely given such impacts threatening the existence of the nahdliyin umbrella as the biggest organization in Indonesia. From the word go, the organization adopting Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah school of thought has now faced huge barriers.

“The Islamic groups (hardliners) have now expanded ideas to NU,” the activist of Lakpesdam NU, Fawaid Sadzili.

Fawaid also said that the radical Islamic movements have openly started fighting against NU by disseminating propaganda through mass media.

“One of these (facts) is in terms of a verdict in the name of Jombang’s ulema. Besides disseminating through leaflet in society, the verdict was also disseminated through mailing lists,” Fawaid said. (rif)
