This week's Friday Prayers Leader Hojatoleslam Seyed Ahmad Khatami said here that no third party, such as the United Nations Security Council or any country has the right to interfere in the case of arrested British sailors.

Addressing a large crowd of woshippers at his sermon, he said that the issue is quite clear, given that two British vessels trespassing Iran's borders and territorial waters were stopped by Iranian marine guards and the servicemen aboard were arrested.<>

"Based on firm documents, the British sailors have already violated Iran's borders several times and in some cases they have apologized and vowed not to repeat such measures.

"Based on the information obtained from the British Global Positioning System (GPS), the arrested British servicemen themselves admitted to trespassing Iran's territorial waters," he added.

Khatami said that no country does ever let its sovereignty be violated, adding that what has taken place actually marks the discord between the two countries.

"Britain is an aggressor and Iran has confronted it. Therefore, no third party -- neither the United Nations Security Council nor any country -- has the right to interfere in the issue. They should be aware that their interference will make the matter more difficult and complicated," he said.

Addressing Britain and the country's enemies, the prayers leader said that Iranian border guards will tackle any aggression against Iran's borders. (irn/dar)
