Ahmadinejad and Badawi will attend NU's international conference

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will reportedly attend the third International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) that will be held at the Jakarta's Borobudur Hotel on 29 July-1 August ahead.

At the forum initiated by the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), both Ahmadinejad and Badawi would be main speakers on the topic Upholding Islam as Rahmatan lil Alamin (Blessing for the universe): Peace and Conflict Prevention in the Muslim World.<>

The purposeful forum would be reportedly attended by Prince Talal of Jordan. While the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon is going to send his special envoy.

In addition, the forum would also be attended by some 50 scholars and ulemas from within and outside the country including Dr. Wahbah Azzuhaily (ulema of Syria).

The scholarly conference would be open by President Susilo Bambang yudhoyono and closed by Vice President Jusuf Kalla. While its participants amounted to approximately 300 people from 63 countries would also attend a religious gathering to commemorate a great event of Isra' Mi'raj of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta on 29 July.

Dr. Aidh Al-Qarni, the "La Tahzan" writer and young ulema of Saudi Arabia would talk more about the spiritual development for peace and humanity at the first day of the conference.

La Tahzan (Do not be Sad) is an essential reading material for all people. It is full of practical advice on how to replace sadness with a pragmatic and ultimately satisfying Islamic outlook on life. It exposes to the modern reader to how Islam teaches us to deal with the tests and tribulations of this world. (rif)
