Ali Masykur Musa was elected Thursday the new chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) in the party's extraordinary meeting, replacing sacked chairman Muhaimin Iskandar.

Masykur, 46, promised to be loyal to PKB founder and irreplaceable leader Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid unlike his predecessors.<>

On March 26, PKB's Syura council sacked Muhaimin Iskandar for his disloyalty to the party. Muhaimin rejected the dismissal, saying it was illegitimate as it was only held in a Syura council meeting, not in the party's national congress.

Muhaimin claimed he is still leading PKB, therefore there are now two versions of PKB. The first one is under Muhaimin''s leadership, and the other is led by newly elected chairman Ali Masykur Musa. (jp/dar)
