Any political negotiation ahead of this years elections has likely affected and made some of NU circles 'redefine' the 1925 Khittah decision. To clarify the NU position, the East Java's NU Regional Board has taken up issues on a possible new "Khittah" concept in dealing with the NU position in regard with politics.
KH Abdurrahman Navis, one of the team members deliberating the relationship between NU and political parties and the model of political recruitment in NU said Monday (6/4) that the academic reports in terms of the concept was finished.<>
In the reports, he said, there were such a tendency of Nahdliyin (NU followers) in positioning themselves in politics in which there have been some firmly holding to the Khittah without any bargaining and there have been some others having a clear relationship with political parties through certain agreements and even expecting NU to be a political party as in 1955s.
"But all this is still a tendency in the academic reports and we have not yet included them in a proposal or recommendation," Navis was quoted by Duta Masyarakat daily as saying.
The leader of Nurul Huda Islamic boarding school (Pesantren) said the decision to review the NU Khittah was not aimed at, once again, redefining it. Rather it was intended to clarify the Khittah position in response to the national political developments recently, he added.
Navis explained the Khittah was issued in the the New Order era, saying in the reform era "we want such a reanalysis" of the Khittah. (dar)
