Former President Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) said that this year`s general elections had no legitimacy, as many people could not use exercise their voting rights as the result of the election organizing committee`s neglect.

"Many people are not registered in the fixed voters lists could not cast their votes," Gus Dur told the press at the Halim Perdanakusuma airport, here, on Thursday.<>

Gus Dur held a press conference upon his arrival from Bangkok for a medical check and treatment at the Bumbungrat international hospital.

According to him, the general election commission (KPU) seemed to be unprepared, so that it easily made mistakes in making an invetory of the eligible voters in the fixed voters lists.

After the press conference, Gus Dur was rushed to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital to continue treatment.

"He could not cast his vote in the general election," Bambang Susanto, a Gus Dur`s staff, said, as quoted by Antara news agency.

On a separate occasion, Rizal Ramli, a the Reform Block`s presidential hopeful, believed this year`s general elections as the worst since the reforms era.

"This is tumultuous general election. This is the first time that many people could not take part in the general election," Rizal said.

According to him, since the very beginning the credibility and legitimacy of the 2009 general elections had often been questioned as indicated in the performance of the KPU.

However, he added, KPU was not the only one that should be held responsible for negligence and mistakes committed in the general election.

"It is the government that should be held responsible for this," he said (dar)
