The faction of the National Awakening Party (PKB) led by Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid submitted on Monday a letter to the Supreme Court to strengthen its legal position in regard to a court verdict favoring the rival PKB faction led by Muhaimin Iskandar.

The faction is seeking "legal protection" from the Supreme Court while waiting for the South Jakarta District Court to issue a memorandum of appeal, Hermawi Taslim from the PKB central board said.<>

"We have submitted a legal protection letter to the Supreme Court through which we expect the court to consider whether the verdict is appropriate," he said.

"It is not that we will intervene in the Supreme Court's verdict on the appeal, but we just want the court to see the oddity behind the verdict."

The faction said the verdict was odd and contradicted the facts because of certain political interests of the plaintiffs. (jp/dar)
