"I'm not so sure if terrorism in Indonesia has a target to kill (president) Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono," chairman of the legislative board of the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) said here on Sunday.

Hasyim who is also the leader of Al Hikam Islamic boarding school (pesantren) said that the phase of terrorism was ideological extremity and global resistance against U.S.

As reported, police chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri said that “those terrorists planned to attack or murder high-ranking officials on August 17th, 2010. They will attack the National Palace.”

According to Bambang Hendarso Danuri, those terrorists aimed their attack to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. “The main target is the President. Then high-ranking officials and VVIP guests,” Bambang Hendarso said.

He said that those terrorists assumed that security on the Independence Day’s ceremony will be weak. The information came from terrorist suspects, who were captured in lost several months. “They know that all guests who come to the ceremony cannot bring weapons inside the palace,” he said. (dar)
