The 3rd International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) is expected to be able to bridge the communication gap between ulema (Islamic scholars) focusing themselves on idea and vision and those of preachers playing directly and concretely their roles in dealing with social problems.

In the forum initiated by the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), some 300 participants from various nations would take part including prominent figures of the PBNU.<>

"This (conference) is part of bridging the two (different) parties," the organizing committee, Nasihin Hasan said here on Tuesday (28/7), adding that the conference was also expected to implement the idea of ulema and enrich preachers' knowledge.

This conference will be attended by some 350 participants from 64 countries. They are Islamic scholars (ulema), academics, observers, practitioners of multi-ethnic conflict resolution and many other circles throughout the world.

The conference is aimed at creating cooperation and solidarity to build peace and to prevent conflicts, especially in the Muslim World, through transformation of Islamic values as Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin in the life of society and state. (mkf)
