ICIS-OIC to commit cooperation

The second International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) will work out in a closer cooperative program with Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).

Chairman of the country’s largest Muslim organization (PBNU), KH Hasyim Muzadi told reporters after closing ceremony of the three-day meeting at Jakarta’s Borobudur Hotel, Thursday (22/6).
He said that the cooperation was one of the important points as a result of the forum.

“It is decided to cultivate such a cooperation as profitable as possible especially for moderate nations to improve economy mainly for ICIS and OIC movement. We would like to commit a cooperation with OIC within the frame of strengthening moderate powers both in the Middle East, Europen, USA, Australia, and Asia,” Hasyim said.

Through the cooperation, according to Hasyim, ICIS will strive to return Islam in its natural sense as a religion of rahmatan lil alamin (blessing to the universe).

Hasym suggested the ICIS II also recommended an effort to overcome Muslims’ internal conflicts and between Muslims and non-Muslims throughout the world. That is why, ICIS will attempt to follow the decision as a result of the meeting that was attended by Islamic scholars (ulama), intellectual from 54 countries.

“God willing, in accordance with the program, every three or four months ahead, we will conduct such a sharpening of the proposed items. Perhaps in small groups meeting not only in Indonesia and overseas. Hopefully the recommendation can be accomplished till the coming third ICIS,” Hasyim added.

At the same time, Hasyim said that he will also cultivate purposefully relationship with the United Nations (UN). “The relationship between ICIS and OIC are expected to be able to continue to the UN in enhancing moderation movement in the broader extent,” Hasyim said.

He asserted the ICIS seeding a mission of Islamic moderation movement, was an independent organization. For that reason, he added, it was realized that the movement also need an independent fund. “For the line of moderation is opposed to global polarization, but it stands on justice, truth, and equality. We need to a capacity to finance ourselves,” Hasyim said.

Stop conflict Palestine-Israel

Dealing with the constantly conflict between Palestine and Israel. Hasyim said the issue was one of ICIS’s concerns. As for him, ICIS and OIC are expectedly be able to seek a solution over the conflict.

“Dealing with Palestine, We remain side with Palestine in justice,” Hasyim said.

He also asserted that the attempt conducted by ICIS and OIC is in the light of moral movement. “ICIS is moral movement, it does not support strength or weakness,” Hasyim added. (rif)
