The third International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) will appoint representatives in five regions, namely Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Central and South Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe and America.

General secretary of the ICIS KH Hasyim Muzadi said that it was one of six points as declared in what so-called as "Jakarta Message" that was produced in the Nahdlatul ULama-sponsored world forum recently.<>

"We will organize ICIS meeting every four years, and in between, we will hold a regional conference in the five regions," he said here on Friday following the closing of the 3rd ICIS.

The ICIS also planned to set up a think-tank aimed at discussing issues on conflict prevention and peace building, he said.

Hasyim said the Islamic world should emphasize on self-defense efforts, rather than wasting energy to fight against enemies. He also called for unity of Muslims all over the world.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirajuda said ICIS was striving to correct mis perception which associates Islam with violence and terrorism.

The third ICIS, which was held from July 29 to Aug. 1, 2008, was attended by some 300 participants from more than 60 countries, to discuss conflicts existing in Muslim countries. (nam)
