India offers scholarships to NU cadres

The government of India through its embassy in Jakarta would offer more scholarships to NU cadres  and Indonesian students throughout the country.

The scholarships that are offered through the General Cultural Scholarship Scheme and administered by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi for the academic year 2009-2010 are at the Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate and Doctoral levels and cover such subjects as arts, architecture, literature, commerce, and science. Degree courses in engineering, pharmacy, and agriculture and doctoral and post-doctoral courses in various disciplines can also be pursued.<>

There have been some 181 state and private universities in the Mahatma Gandhi's country involving in the purposeful scholarship program.

The government of India will provide a living allowance and contingent grant, accommodation, tuition fee and other benefits, including medical and study tour expenses to the students (but not air passages to India and back nor laboratory expenses and related incidentals for science stream students).

Second Secretary for Education Affairs A. S. Takhi personally expressed his gratitude to the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) for disseminating the details.

While Secretary General of PBNU Endang Turmudi said that the scholarship program was a good chance for NU cadres willing to study in India. He said, there would be no such limitations for NU cadres that are interested in the program.

"Whoever is interested, register please," he told NU Online here on Wednesday, adding that he or she should first of fulfill the requirements.

PBNU, Endang said, would help in the selection process so that the registration application forms must first of all be sent to the headquarters of PBNU, third floor, Jln. Kramat Raya 164, Jakarta.

General instructions to applicants are at least they should clearly mention the course and University to which he/she seeking admission; certified copies of all documents should be accompanied with English translations.

The medium of instruction in English and applications from only those candidates who have a reasonable good command over spoken and written English may be forwarded.

The application forms may be filled in as per the guidelines enclosed and forwarded to the Indian Embassy at Jl. HR Rasuna Said, Kav. S1, Kuningan, Jakarta, latest by Tuesday, 27 January 2009. While the Embassy will conduct an English language test on Friday, 6th February 2009 for those who have been short listed from among all applicants after scrutiby of their documents. (rif/dar)
