Indonesia, Egypt play important role in non-aligned movement

Egyptian Ambassador to Indonesia Ahmed El Kewaisny said Indonesia and Egypt are playing an important role in constantly reviving the Bandung Spirit in the Non-Aligned Movement.
"Egypt and Indonesia are two big countries playing an important role in constantly reviving the movement," Ahmed El Kewaisny said, as quoted by Antara news agency Tuesday.<>
He added that at a time when a number of countries taking extreme leftist or rightist positions, and even in the non-aligned movement, Indonesia and Egypt belonged to the group of neutral countries, referring to the spirit of the Asia Africa Conference in Bandung in 1955.
He said further that while there are many other regional or multilateral organizations in the non-aligned movement, it still has an important position especially serving the interest of the developing countries.
"It is still quite current (non-aligned movement), especially in facing the global financial crisis and a number of other problems," he said while explaining how the global crisis has affecting the economy of the developing countries.
He also said President Hosni Mubarak has invited President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to take part and lead an Indonesian delegation in the 15th summit of the Non-aligned Movement in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, which is currently the movement`s chairman.
The summit is scheduled on July 15 and 16, 2009, and would be preceded by a senior officials meeting (SOM), and a ministerial meeting on July 11-14, 2009. (dar)
