The Indonesian people should not forget former president Soeharto’s meritorious services to the country, Chairman of the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI)’s Jambi chapter, Sulaiman Abdullah, said here Sunday.
Sulaiman said Soeharto’s legal status should not be brought to serious debates right now as the New Order leader had however made progresses and upheld Indonesia’s image in the international community.<>
He said Soeharto made mistakes not alone but along with his cronies the current government must deal with.
Soeharto’s era also produced a lot of scientists with high performances at international level and created significant progresses in all development sectors. Antara reported.
Physically powerless, Soeharto is now lying on the bed under intensive medical treatment and thus the Indonesian people were expected to pray for his recovery before considering his legal status, he said.
Certain persons’ efforts to sue Soeharto who is now in such a bad condition are considered inhumane and have offended the family of the former strongman who had ruled for 32 years in Indonesia, he said. (dar)
