Chairman of the Islamic Defenders Front of Jember, East Java, Habib Abu Bakar apologized to former president KH Abdurrahman “Gus Dur” Wahid over the remark made by the FPI's chairman Habib Riziq Shihab that he considered to have insulted Gus Dur.
“We Jember's FPI apologize to people over the attack at the National Monument Square and especially apologize to KH Abdurrahman Wahid over the FPI's attitudes so far,” Habib Abu Bakar said in his residence, Jalan Kauman, Mangli, Kaliwates subdistrict, Jember, East Java on Tuesday (3/6)<>.
In addition, Habib Abu Bakar also said that Jember's FPI had disbanded itself without any pressure from others.
Habib made the statement following the coming of Gus Dur's supporters in his residence. The supporters leaving from the office of Jember's National Awakening Party (PKB), located on Jalan Kalimantan, was led by Ayup Djunaidi at 10.00 am.
While the Ansor Youth Movement of Mojokerto would always be ready to take stand firm against the hard line Islamic group having so far insulted ulema. The NU's youth organization expected the FPI not to be arrogant and commit any violent actions.
The National Monument incident as marked with the attack by FPI (Islam Defenders Front) activists on Sunday afternoon against members of the National Alliance for Freedom of Religion and Faith (AKKBB) triggered widespread calls for disbanding the FPI. (dtc/sbh)
