A Sudan-based organization of NU so-called the Jamiyyah Syifa'ul Qulub (JSQ) attended the Nusrotus Sudan wal Bashir meeting at the International Park Khartoum, Sudan on Wednesday (24/3).

The meeting initiated by the Jaliyyah al-Arabiyyah wal Islamiyah (the Arab and Islamic Community) was aimed at supporting the government of Sudan and President Omar Bashir.<>

Present at the occasion were nationals from such countries as Yaman, Tunisia, Turkey, Syria, Egypt and Indonesia.

The JSQ NU also took part in the purposeful forum by entertaining the audiences through shalawat and Yamani poetry recitation.

NU Online's Karimullah Amirudin reported the forum was also aimed at rejecting the decision made by the International Criminal Court (ICC) which is considered being capable of destroying Sudan and interfering in its home affairs.

As reported the ICC has recently issued an arrest warrant for Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir. This is the first time a sitting head of state has been indicted. Bashir is accused of facing crimes against humanity, genocide and war crimes.

Leaders from China, the Arab League and the African Union (AU) have opposed this indictment. China fears a leadership change would affect its natural resources deals with the Bashir government. The AU and the Arab League believe the arrest will destabilize the situation in Sudan even further. Bashir is the 11th African suspect indicted by the ICC. No non-African has ever been indicted by the ICC.(dar)
