Kalla-Wiranto ticket potentially formidable rival to SBY : survey

The Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto presidential ticket of the Golkar and Hanura parties is a potentially formidable competitor to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) of the Democratic Party (PD) in the upcoming presidential race on July 8, 2009, a researcher said.
Director of the Indonesian Research Institute Johan Silalahi said here on Saturday that his institute survey results showed that SBY-HNW (if Yudhoyono pairs up with Hidayat Nurwahid) pair won 36.2 percent, JK-WIN 27.6 percent and Megawati-Prabowo ticket 19.1 percent votes of 2,066 respondents surveyed.<>
He said that the survey was carried out in 33 provinces on May 3-7, 2009. It indicated that the JK-WIN pair would constitute a potential rival for the SBY-HNW ticket.
Silalahi said that the JK-WIN had the chance to become potential rival against the incumbent president because Golkar General Chairman Jusuf Kalla and Hanura Chairman Wiranto were the first to announce their pair.
The survey also indicated that if Megawati Soekarnoputri, leader of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) paired up with Prabowo Subiyanto, chairman of Gerindra, they would face difficulty to compete with SBY. The Megawati-Prabowo ticket only won 19.1 percent of the votes surveyed. (ant/dar)
