Korean Muslim Federation welcomes NU chairman

General chairman of the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama, KH Hasyim Muzadi, was warmly welcomed by the chairman of the Korean Muslim Federation (KMF) Prof Dr Hee-Soo Lee in Seoul, South Korea on Thursday (16/10).

The visit of Hasyim who is also the General Secretary of the International Conference of Islamic Scholars was aimed at fulfilling the invitation of the KMF, facilitated by the Foreign Affairs Department of South Korea through its embassy in Jakarta.<>

Hasyim and his entourage arriving in Seoul at 07.30 (local time) were also welcomed by the leader of the Seoul Central Mosque Lee Haeng Lae and the Secretary General of the KMF A Rahman Lee and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian embassy in Seoul.

During his official five-day visit, Hasyim was scheduled to visit Korean Hidro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd (KHNP), hold talks with the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu Inchon, Korea's National Intelligence Service and religious figures grouped within the Korean Conference of Religion for Peace.

"Hasyim was also scheduled to hold meetings with a number of of businessmen and directors of such Korean leading corporations as Samsung and KHNP in the frame of economic cooperation with NU," Hasyim's special assistant for foreign affairs Abdul Wahid Maktub told NU Online.

In addition, the president of the World Conference of Religions for Peace (WCRP) was also scheduled to give a sermon to Korea's Indonesian labor migrants in the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul. (nam)
