Sidoarjo, NU Online
The management of PT. Lapindo Brantas eventually was able to meet the demand of mudflow-affected residents from four villages in Sidoardjo district for a compesation of Rp1,5 million/m2 of building and Rp1 million/m2 of land of their houses and Rp120/m2 of farmland.

The final decision was warmly welcomed  by Lapindo mud victims who were accommodated at the hall of Sidoarjo administration office on Monday afternoon.

<>The good news was followed an announcement made by Sidoarjo district head Win Hendrarso to the residents on PT. Lapindo Brantas’ letter on the compensation.

In a meeting attended by representatives of the mudflow victims and the management of Lapindo as well as those of its holding company  PT. Energi Mega Persada (EMP), Win Hendrarso asked Lapindo to read out the good news.

"Once again, we are ready to buy the land and the buildings of the residents who fell victim of the  mudflow as a reflection of our social care and moral responsibility," said Yusuf, Vice President of PT. Energi Mega Persada as quoted by Antara.

Thus Lapindo was able to meet the residents’ claims  through a process of transactions. The inventory and verificaton would be conducted by an independent team appointed by Lapindo.

"The process of transactions will hopefully be completed before the expiry of their houses’ rents," he said.

The amounts of the compensation were in line with the mudflow-affected residents taking into account the current economic, social and psychological values. So that the transaction prices agreed to by Lapindo was much higher than the objects’ sales value and market prices, he said.

Positive information on the compensation was happily welcomed by the residents who were glorifying Sudiarjo district head and shouted "Long Live Mr Win."

In return, Win only asked residents to thank God for what they have achieved. (dar)
