The serial electronic cinemas (sinetron) claimed as religious ones and aired on national TV stations could be considered to have lost their spiritual values. The aired programs should expectedly be aimed at deepening religious sense of viewers instead of reducing Islamic teachings.

The remarks was made by Hesti Prabowo (Wowok) in dealing with the mushrooming sinetron during the holy month of Ramadhan. The similar viewpoint was also voiced by Conference on Islamic Representation held at Manchester University in UK regarding the TV programs irrelevant with Islamic community.<>

Wowok who is also the board member of the Indonesian Muslim Artists and Culturalists Institute (Lesbumi) of Nahdlatul Ulama said the TV programs would result in such public inmaturity and not bring better cultural change.

"Their impact would be on such a scale. Moreover as stated by ulema that the rigid religious understanding will on one hand tend to produce extreme fanaticism and produce extreme pragmatism," Wowok told NU Online here on Tuesday, adding that the religious should not be used as such marketable commodity.
