Many hoped the national examination to be repeated for those students who failed during the exam, including Ma’arif Educational Institution of Nahdlatul Ulama (LP Ma’arif NU) and Religious Affairs Department, supervising about 11.000 schools of NU.
Vice Chairman of PP LP Ma’arif Aceng Abdul Aziz said that the repeated exam was so important to give chance for students who failed the recent UN. Hopefully, they do not repeat the same exam next year. “Of course, it is disappointed for students who failed the recent exam if they may not follow the repetition exam, he said.
Aceng also pointed out if it could no longer be held, he expected students who failed the UN to follow the same exam through C package “school system.”
“It is also a solution, hopefully they (who did not pass) can no longer repeat. Yet the best way is reorganizing the same exam,” he said.
He suggested the UN constitutes part of state effort to improve national education. Yet, the recent passing was not a maximum effort. In consequence, many students did not pass in the national examination.
“If the government has a commitment to increase educational quality, of course it should be handle seriously. The many students who did not pass the exam showed that the examination system was inappropriate, so it immediately needs to be improved,” Aceng said.
LP Ma’arif itself agreed with the UN not to determine students’ achievement, but to map the national educational quality. The passing of students should be determined by their own schools that know more their own students’ capacity.
National educational standard was regarded as one of efforts to increase educational quality in Indonesia. UN also, according to Aceng, was also suggested as an effort of mapping instead of school accreditation system.
Ma’arif has not yet known how far the achievement of the schools especially in its supervised schools, such as Madrasah Ibtida’iyyah (Islamic Elementary School), Madrasah Tsanawiyah (Islamic Junior High), Madrasah Aliyah (Islamic Senior High). (mkf)
